A
few blog posts back, the thought entered my head that contests are great things
for writers; not real ground-breaking news, no. Writers have been entering
contest forever.
But
for me, it IS a new thought.
Come
to find out, the contests are not just all about a writer sending in short
stories to various people in order to win $50 and gain one more star on the
chart.
Authors
give their own books away in contests, too!
The
idea intrigued me, so I’ve been investigating a few contests lately and thanks
to Jody Hedlund, author of The Preacher’s Bride and The Doctor’s Lady, I’m
going to learn a great deal about this marketing tool!
(I’ve
decided that once my own book is in print, I’m going to do this, too. Right at
this moment, however, my debut novel is still on my editor’s desk and I have no idea how to host a book giveaway!)
Many
authors use this marketing tool with great success; I just entered a book
giveaway contest this morning hosted by Sara McClung, where she has 5 signed
copies of various books for the winners.
It
sounds like an easy thing to do … just ask people, “Do you want this book?
Which one would you like? Fine. Here ya go … happy reading!”
You’ll
hear more about my findings and discoveries along the way. This is going to be
fun!
