It was really a great idea: I'd buy all these pretty sticky notes in different shapes, sizes, and colors. Each one would represent a specific section of my current writing project, organizing and  energizing the entire process.

It was working out just fine until the light pink ones I was using to keep tabs on my word count began losing the sticky-stuff and kept falling off the edges of my rainbow-edged laptop. But I figured I'd just use the bright pink ones I was already using to keep track of research sites for 1800s fabric and flour sacks. Of course that would work, right?

Not. The whole color-coding-thing was meant to keep thoughts separated and organized … who wants to search a seven-inch area for something? :)

In comes the yellow sticky notes, but they didn't last long because they were distracting. So the word count went to the purple ones, which worked great until I ran out of them …

I looked at the edge of my laptop a few days ago and scratched my head when the thought occurred to me: Oh, yeah. Doesn't my writing program have that nifty word count button right there at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen?
